The picture above shows Glasgow Central Station. This is probably the main place in Glasgow to find a few beggars. In fact, the lady in grey above probably parted with 20p soon after this picture was taken. A good rule to stick to in Glasgow Central is "Don't stand still for more than 2 minutes". If you stick to this rule you will likely have a hassle free time, but if you break this rule, be prepared to part with some money or at least have to listen to a "story". Evening rush hour is possibly the worst time to be here since this appears to be the peak time for the beggars. They work their way round the whole crowd and if they get 20p from all the people they ask they may come out with quite a healthy sum of money. Morning rush hour seems to be beggar free. I'm not sure why. Maybe they don't do early shifts or maybe they're all at home...
I must mention the gents toilet. Only go to this place during the day, preferably at busy times. Im not saying they're dangerous or anything it's just better to have people around when you enter the pit. There will usually be police down there anyway seeing to some passed out junkie 'character'. One more thing about the toilet. Don't EVER use the cubicles.
If you wish to see a mecca of general vagrants, neds and down and outs, I recommend heading to the Gordon Street main entrance to Central Station. You wont believe your eyes, its like a Vago-DisneyLand.
UPDATE: They recently tried to put a sex shop slap bang in the middle of the Vago-DisneyLand but the good people of Glasgow decided against it. I personally, am glad of this as the addition of a sex shop to this already 'total mingin' bit of Gordon Street would have been a bit of a humour overload for me.
ANOTHER UPDATE: They're refurbishing the mens toilets. Mecca of the neds is no more. Well we'll see exactly how updated they are I suppose. Maybe they were just lining the toilet bowl edges with sponge so that the neds dont hurt themselves when they collapse with drug induced euphoria and sue the train station.
